Messy Marv Presents – Muzik Fo Tha Taliban (1-30-2007)
Posted on Jan 30 in Reviewsby adminPrint

The Bay area has been quietly holding down the west coast for the last couple of decades. From the likes of Mac Mall, E-40, and Rappin 4 Tay the Bay has birthed its fair share of national exposure. Through the last few years Messy Marv has quietly amassed a loyal following in the Bay and various other parts of the nation. Before Mess has even broken into the mainstream himself he chooses to put some of his equally talented artist on with the release of his compilation effort Muzik Fo Tha Taliban.
The seasoned west coast beatsmith Sean T sprinkles his bay game on the Click Clack Gang’s contribution “Wow”. Fresh off a bid Rappin 4 Tay shows up on the E-A-Ski and CMT produced “Charger”. The west coast vet raps with his signature ease as if things never changed for the bay area representative. Husalah from The Mob Figaz lays his vocals on one of the compilation’s gems “Reason Why” while producer Rob-Lo offers a bass heavy menacing backdrop for the Cali native to go off on. Messy Marv enlists assistance from ATL’s Pastor Troy on the just a notch above average Sean T produced “Bitch I’m Fresh”.
Producer Matt Blaque laces “Night Rider” with a nice interpolation of a Spanish guitar and an evenly flowing harmony by himself on the Keak Da Sneak assisted offering. On the Yukmouth produced and assisted “Westcoast” The Realest waters down an otherwise noteworthy effort by sounding too identical to the late great Pac. Messy Marv and Mitchy Slick throw up there pyru affiliation on the Wrong King produced standout track “The Second Letter”. Guce (pronounced juice) and Killa Keise close out the compilation with some authority on the back breaking bass possessing “Taliban”.
Having already proven his worth with numerous solo shots and a slew of collaboration albums Messy Marv digs deep into his pockets to give some of his regional homies some exposure. Though the west coast still isn’t what it once was, this compilation proves in many ways that the left coast is anything but dead. And with Yukmouth and Rappin 4 Tay being the most notable rappers to show up on the effort things are beginning to look like a new crop of MCs may takeover without the help of big dogs like The Game, Snoop, or Dre.
