A few weeks ago my good friend and business associate Sean Stafford asked me if I wanted a Kentucky flag. Of course with most things political things getting our flags proved to be a little more tedious than we anticipated with certain political offices giving us the run around while other just gave us a [...]

If you’re one of those people who thinks that Rich Boy’s single “Throw Some D’s” is the face of Alabama’s rap scene then you’re probably not really up on the south. Long before Rich Boy ever decided to pursue the game two cousins collectively known as Dirty have been laying down the definition of trill over beats with the definition of bass. The Pimp and The Gangsta return in 2007 with there sixth effort aptly entitled The Art Of Storytelling. Since 2001’s hit “Hit Tha Flo” the two gump natives have garnered a cult like following thanks equally to there always on point production and there vivid hood recounts.

Big Pimp opens up the latest Dirty collection on the solo tip while vividly detailing the turns and twist in the dope game on “Set Up”. On the album’s second selection “Stop Playin” Mr. Blue shows up from exile over Big Pimp’s self produced gem. The two send a scalding message to unaware rappers over a white sand smooth bass drop. Longtime fans of Dirty will relish Mr. G Stacka’s first appearance of the album on the smooth signature joint “Same Old Hood”. Monotony is not an issue here as Big Pimp successfully switches modes between Chevy dedications, street talk, and of course those. “Shut Em Down” and “Chevy Rock” are examples of the commanding nature behind riding square body slabs while tracks like “I Got 50” and the harmonious “Couple Hundred” both display the strip club infatuations. The forward features a verse layout patterned after TI’s track “Do It” off his debut album I’m Serious.

On “Slob On My Nobb” producer Anthony Gardner lifts Juicy J’s infamous lines for the hook as Big Pimp lays down the pimp hand a là Too Short. Producer Maxmillion laces the Pimp and the Gangsta with a sorrow soul filled sound mix with the retrospective “Rearview Mirror”. Big Pimp doubles back for his third production credit on “Check Myself” as he and Mr. G Stacka take yet another ride down reality lane. In a gesture not too often expressed in rap Big Pimp puts himself in the shoes of a soldier overseas on the album’s closing effort “Comin Home (Troop Song)”.

With there sixth studio effort Dirty has officially cemented themselves as staples in true dirty south rap. The Art Of Storytelling’s main facet of suffering has to come from the fact that Mr. G Stacka only shows up on one-third of the collection. Big Pimp’s contributions have to make this album a solo effort which he successfully hold’s down with ease, even adding some very impressive board work. With 21 total offerings the album comes out to be just a little over weight just like Pimp himself but in the end real fans of the Bama duo will rejoice once again as Dirty lays it down with near perfection for the sixth round!
