Kentucky Colonel

A few weeks ago my good friend and business associate Sean Stafford asked me if I wanted a Kentucky flag. Of course with most things political things getting our flags proved to be a little more tedious than we anticipated with certain political offices giving us the run around while other just gave us a [...]

r2981_l  The Wu Tang Clan umbrella seems to open up more and more every year. Though the Clan has not released an official album in about six years the set steadily floods the industry with there own individual offspring acts. Such is the case with Raekwon and his newly formed quartet Icewater. The four MCs are out to embark on a journey through the rigorous rap game debut with there full length effort Polluted Water. The good doctor’s two most prized east coast recruits Busta Rhymes and Raekwon add extra flare to the already boiling hot “Do It Big”. On the Emile produced “Hip Hop Tribute” the quartet speaks on their individual appreciation for the culture but of course Raekwon shows up and effortlessly steals the show. Three 6 Mafia sounds all the way out of place on the ultra New York tailored “Lets Get It”. The group displays a serious anti-sentiment for saddity females on the likes of “Actin Fly” and “Love Don’t Cost (A Thing)”. Assistance from Rick Ross and Pimp C on “I’m A Boss” and “Knuckle Up” respectively, can’t do anything to help Icewater’s cause. Icewater saves one of the album’s few favorable points for last in “Baby Love Me”, other than that the only other rewind worthy point comes on the Raekwon assisted “Click Click”. The reoccurring theme throughout Polluted Water seems to be relying on the strength of the guest appearance. It seems as though without either Raekwon or some other big name artist on the track the four MCs fail to hold any weight with there lyrics, subjects, and deliveries. Maybe if Raekwon were actually a part of the group then the album would be worth more than just one listen. With the exception of maybe two beats the production here is pretty salty, the lyrics as noted before are not up to par, and the overall delivery of the album is flat out lazy. Unfortunately in the rap industry artist usually get one chance and this chance for Icewater is a complete failure. VERDICT – 9 / 20 LYRICS: 3 PRODUCTION: 2 DELIVERY: 2 CONSISTENCY: 2
