NO RAPPER LEFT BEHIND: KY MOVEMENT Volume: 10
It seems like each day that passes brings about a new rapper trying to make it out of the Ville. Unfortunately for most of these artists they don’t have the slightest chance in hell to make something out of themselves in the rap game. To my surprise there seems to be more and more artist who seem to be worthy of rap super stardom. Even more fortunately for myself I seem to run into the better ones more often than not. I met T. Mcafee just overa month ago while he was spitting outside of the Wick’s Pizza on Baxter Ave and from that point I could tell there was something unique about this cat. Fortunately for me the mixtape Courtesy Of Self proved that notion even further.
T. Mcafee opens up his bullshit free mixtape with high energy on the Ren-A-Sance helmed “All About Me.” The same skilled beatsmith laces the just as substantial encore effort “It’s All Good” where T. takes the high road against glorifying everything that shouldn’t always be but usually is. T. sends a straight forward message to those of us who work with dirty money on “Monday Night,” a notion which is not often explored in most of today’s rap songs.
T. Mcafee goes over the top as he reworks the Isley Brother’s “Between The Sheets” and Jim Jones’ “Summer With Miami” on the weedhead anthem “Fire Shit.” T. shows and proves his swagger towards the ladies on the likes of the heart break filled “Do Me Like At” and “See U Around.” The mixtape hits its paradox when Ju-Ju Pap Pap lays down a breezy backdrop on the huslter’s motivational “Keep It Movin’ / Grind Date ’08.”
Courtesy Of Self is one of the finest representations of the quality of rap music coming out of the Ville. Anyone who knows me knows that I’m a stickler for change and T. Mcafee seems to represent more change than Barack O’Bama right now. Sometimes it feels good as a listener to hear something outside of how many times your gun go off, or how many blocks you get off a day. Fortunately for the rap game artist like T.Mcafee still exist with the genuine intentions of crafting reality music instead of continuing the fairy tale trends of most other rappers.
