I’m rather saddened to inform you that Shakir Stewart committed suicide sometime yesterday afternoon. Sources close to the Def Jam Executive VP confirmed his death and as of press time have no further details or reason behind his death. Stewart earned major recognition as an A&R at Def Jam who was responsible for bringing ground breaking southern acts such as Young Jeezy and Rick Ross to the label. Earlier this year Stewart was named the successor of Jay-Z after his departure from the head of the label several months ago. Our hearts and prayers go out to the Stewart family as well as the Def Jam family.
