Mia X’s third album kicks off in familiar fashion with a KLC cadence influenced “Bring It On” where Fiend, C-Murder, Mystikal , Skull Duggrey, and Mac all fire off some lyrical rounds. Legendary Gap Band member Charlie Wilson lends his vocals and classic “Yearning For Your Love” on the album’s first single “Whatcha Wanna Do.” Craig B uses a Keith Sweat sample to set the tone on the N.O. flavored party favor “Imma Shine” where Mi closes things out by shouting out all the Louisiana DJs.
Mia reworks MC Lyte’s “Paper Thin” on “Mama’s Tribute” as she runs down a laundry list of do’s and don’ts in regards to us dog ass males. The C-Murder and Mr. Serv On assisted “Don’t Blame Me” serves as a message to America to stop their constant finger pointing at the music as the culprit of the ghetto’s struggles. Mia rides slender guitar strums from Mark Trentecosta on “Daddy” as she opens up her heart to pour out her love for her father.
Silkk The Shocker and Mia X collabo on the grown and sexy O’Dell helmed “Sex Ed” then Mac shows up with precise lyricism on the KLC produced “Flip 2 Rip.” Mia X closes out the album in what I think is the best shape as she sends a heartfelt tribute to her slain friend on the KLC and O’Dell produced “Fallen Angels (Dear Jil).”
I must say that I wasn’t as impressed with this album as I was with Unlady Like but it was nonetheless a damn good album. Listening to it now versus listening to it then brings about many different analogies and recognitions on my part. First off this album was definitely tailored for adults and open-minded people.
