Kentucky Colonel

A few weeks ago my good friend and business associate Sean Stafford asked me if I wanted a Kentucky flag. Of course with most things political things getting our flags proved to be a little more tedious than we anticipated with certain political offices giving us the run around while other just gave us a [...]

Bizzy Bone – Back With The Thugz (3-10-2009)

Throughout the lifeline of Bone Thugs-N-Harmony Bizzy Bone has played the role of the red headed stepchild, or in other senses the bad ass little brother. Now after battling through highly publicized alcohol and drug addictions Bizzy has vowed to get back on his shit with the help of his Bone brethren. His latest solo effort Back With The Thugz is the first testament to his newfound loyalty with his former band mates.

On the album’s opening offering “Back With The Thugs” Bizzy drops off a slower flow over a grooving Mid-western tailored backdrop. On the aforementioned track Bizzy takes time to send heartfelt messages to each of his Bone comrades. Mr. Capone E and Bizzy link up on the loyalty track of the year on “Shooting At Me” where the two define the depths of a real ride or die kinship. Bizzy should have taken his mother’s advice and left the singing to those select few individuals who actually can. “I Wanna Sing” finds the rapper going off on a seemingly drunken tyrant as he attempts to pull a poor Lil Wayne – Kanye West – 50 Cent – T-Pain esque vocoder sequence.

However you may decide to get there, Bizzy offers the perfect soundtrack for great natural feelings on the harmonious “On That Natural High.” Bizzy’s second attempt at harmonizing turns out to be a much better affair than his first as he takes time to pen a message for his daughter on “That’s Why Thugz Never Cry.” On the album’s closing effort, “Is There Anything Left 2 Deal With”, Bizzy goes off on a thugged out rant over a beat that sounds as if it were meant for the late 2Pac.

From the sounds of the things in the beginning of the album Bizzy sounded as if he left off with the Eternal 1999 album. Unfortunately as the album wears on things taper off further and further. Bizzy’s new and slower flow makes for a more enjoyable listen as you can finally decipher what the hell he is talking about. Even though Back With The Thugz only offers up a few enjoyable tracks it still leaves plenty of room for optimism for the next Bone Thugs-N-Harmony project.
