Kentucky Colonel

A few weeks ago my good friend and business associate Sean Stafford asked me if I wanted a Kentucky flag. Of course with most things political things getting our flags proved to be a little more tedious than we anticipated with certain political offices giving us the run around while other just gave us a [...]

It’s hard to believer that it’s been just shy of thirteen years since the world lost Tupac Shakur, but nonetheless it has. Over the course of that time the integrity of music has suffered more than anything. Besides a handful of living MCs, it’s like Pac was one of the last hip-hop icons. You know, one of those people who could do just about anything perfectly. His resume included rapping (of course), acting, poetry, and activism amongst other things.

I still remember riding to the mall the night of September 13, 1996 and the radio announcer came on and said that Pac had died. It was probably the second most mind-boggling thing that I had to hear in my life. The other being the death of my father! The crazy thing is that the old Bone Thugs-N-Harmony song “Days Of Our Lives” will always be synonymous with Pac’s death because that the song that came on right after the announcement.

There’s not really much that can be said about Pac that hasn’t been said over the course of the past decade. I am only left to wonder how much better the rap game would be if he were still here. Pac seemed to have an agenda that artist these days just can’t fathom. He was involved in the game before everybody decided to be a CEO and before the big wigs at the record labels and radio stations dictated what was hot.

Its fucked up that we have to sit around and only imagine what it would be like if Pac still were around. Would he have maintained control of the game for so many years? Would Biggie have been killed if Pac weren’t? Would the Jay-Z and Nas beef have even been an issue? Would Jay-Z have been taken out of the game by Pac before he even got the chance to really get in? What about 50 Cent, Eminem, and Dr. Dre; would they have had the chance to sell millions of records? The last thing I wonder is if Pac would have fucked with them No Limit dudes? That would have been some cold ass music.

I guess what I was really trying to say through all this is happy would 38th birthday Pac.
