Sheek Louch – Life On D-Block (5-19-2009)
Posted on Jul 08 in Reviewsby adminPrint

For more than a decade Sheek Louch has been more or less overshadowed by his two group mates yet each time he has dropped a solo he gets critical acclaim. With each successive solo release Sheek proves more and more why he is just as good if not better piece of The LOX trifecta. If 2003’s Walk Wit Me, 2005’s After Taxes, and 2008’s Silverback Gorilla are any indication of what this year’s Life On D-Block will be then fans will surely get their monies worth with this one.
Sheek opens up his fourth set over harking sound effects from Hollis and Preach on the Bully assisted “It’s On.” Sheek goes off on a lyrical tangent as he spits with a more rapid flow than most would be used to on the vivid “Pimp Shit.” Sheek opens up the artillery cabinet as he spits some of the albums hottest bars over the standout backdrop on “That Nigga.” Sheek sends an unbiased shout out to all haters throwing salt on New York on the well laced, “The Boyz From NY.” On the laid back “My Guns Go” Sheek takes a relaxed vantage point on a very tense subject matter. On the Blaxoploitan inspired, “Not Livin It” Sheek reverts back to the pimp lifestyle he’s already exploited once on the album thus far.
While Life On D-Block doesn’t prove to be one of Sheek’s most consistent efforts to date it still weaves its way well into the same fabric of his previous efforts. With a little more juice and a bit of a grittier edge Sheek’s next project could very well be one for the ages. Unfortunately for fans, there is no telling when that will actually happen, so in the meantime they will have to find some type of acceptance for Life On D-Block.
