A few weeks ago my good friend and business associate Sean Stafford asked me if I wanted a Kentucky flag. Of course with most things political things getting our flags proved to be a little more tedious than we anticipated with certain political offices giving us the run around while other just gave us a flat out “no.” Finally we decided to reach out to the John Yarmuth office and while our request was a little different than most requests they get they still made a firm commitment to us.

Early last week a surprised looking guy dressed in a pretty sharp blazer walked past our office. Fortunately we were eagerly expecting him, and thankfully he had our beloved Kentucky State flags in hand. As he proceeded to walk into our office/ daily adult theme park he took acute notice of Olivia, the 90-pound Labradoodle that more or less acts as our project coordinator. Obviously at this point you’d have to realize that we aren’t your ordinary group of guys.

After some brief introductions he asked the golden question…”so what do you all do?” Our team leader Dan Kimball began to go into a spill about how we provide DNS services to a computer over here and a computer over there. As I’m sure you’re probably wondering what exactly DNS is, he looked as if he were wondering the exact same thing. So he shook his head and nodded in a dazed agreement and gave us a little background on himself. Come to find out Mr. Meyer will be running for Kentucky State Senate later on this year. Not that we don’t like politicians, we just typically have a certain disdain for them. This guy on the other hand, we could instantly tell was much different. Almost like he was one of us! The gesture of personally delivering our flags was enough to win us over tenfold but the fact that he anointed us all Kentucky Colonels is reason enough to win our lifetime support, loyalty, and respect!

Being a Kentucky colonel is something that I’ve always heard of. I’ve heard of it so much, I just never thought that I, of all people, would be one someday. Making money is great but it’s these types of accolades that make us feel good about our contributions to society. I’ve never had much direct contact with any single politician so this experience has definitely left me with a lasting impression of what great leaders are capable of doing. For this I will frame my certificate, display it honorably, and I will fly my great Kentucky flag with pride.
